Protecting an e-mail account

We think it's pretty simple. Spam is a moving target that works it's way around filters unless you constantly update and adjust them. Since the majority of spam will utilize an invalid ("spoofed") return address, the Spambite team has developed a system for blocking any emails that are "spoofed". If the sender isn't who they say they are, you'll never receive the mail.

Once you only have legitimate mail coming in, you can easily use your current email program to block the few legitimate senders whose messages you don't wish to receive.

There is nothing to install so it protects your email account even if you check it from multiple PCs or other devices. Although Spambite is not an anti-virus solution, you now have limited your potential for receiving an email virus to someone that is traceable and most likely known by you.

How it works:
When an email is sent to you, it is received by an email server and kept there until your email program retrieves it. If you have signed up to be protected by Spambite, and the sender has never been verified as a legitimate user by Spambite, the sender will receive a message stating that they have sent you an email and have not been validated by Spambite. They are instructed to click a link in the email message which will validate them allowing them to send email to anyone else on the Spambite network. They are also instructed to resend their original message to you if its been over 24 hours since they originally sent it. They will never receive a message from Spambite again, even if they send messages to different protected users.

Although a sender only clicks a link to verify their address, you can prevent a sender from getting the above mentioned verification request from Spambite by adding them to your white list before they send you a message. An example of why this would be useful is if you are signed up for a newsletter and want to make sure it comes through. When you do this, you can enter the whole email address if you know it (newsletter@ABCcorp.com) or just enter the domain (such as ABCcorp.com ) if you are unsure of the exact address. You can also just wait until it arrives and click on it in your blocked list to allow the email to pass through later on.

In addition to allowing you to log onto the Spambite site to add a sender or a whole domain to your white list, you may also view who has been blocked by Spambite. This would show you just how many spam messages you would have received without Spambite or to see that a particular piece of spam is desirable so you can add it to your white list as well!

A better way to prevent your friends, family, and business associates emails from being blocked is to upload your address book directly to the Spambite server. This allows notifications to be sent out immediately instead of waiting until they send you an email and it gets blocked.
